Beginners' Course *£40
The beginners' course is designed for anybody who is new to archery.It teaches the basic archery technique and, most importantly, the safety aspects involved with the sport. You will also learn about the various equipment used, and we can advise on possible places to purchase this equipment if you decide to take your archery further. The beginners' course will provide you with a sound foundation for developing your archery skills, in a safe and enjoyable way.
The course usually lasts for six weeks with one lesson per week, and the use of the clubs training equipment is included in the course cost. All equipment is provided for you, but as we shoot on a field it is advisable to wear suitable footwear and sensible clothing (but not loose clothing that might interfere with the shooting of the bow).
We would advise all participants to not buy any equipment before completing the course, as it is important that you are aware of the suitability of equipment before you buy it. If you do already own your own bow we can not allow you to use it during the course as our insurance only covers us when using club equipment. No exceptions will be made to this rule.
Junior archers (from eight years old) are very welcome, and strongly encouraged, but we do require anybody under the age of 14 to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Children aged 14 years and older may shoot only when at least two adults are present. These archers may be club members, parents or guardians but at least one of the adults must be a GNAS member. Similar rules apply to vulnerable adults depending on the level of their vulnerability.
We do recommend that parents or guardians attend the course with their children either as spectators or participants in the course. If your child decides to go further with archery it will be useful for you to have a good basic knowledge of the safety aspects and we can also advise you regarding suitable equipment for your child.
