Teesside Championships 2011

The Gentleman & Lady Archers of Darlington were proud to host the Teesside Championships last Sunday 16th October and we had a really great day. The shoot usually takes place at the beginning of September but due to some confusion regarding who was hosting the event we were only asked in September if we could host it.

We were happy to hold the shoot but were really concerned about how good the weather would be at this time of year, but we need not have worried as it was a beautiful day. The weather was pleasant if not hot and the Sun even made a few appearances and with only a slight breeze it really was perfect shooting conditions for most of the day.

The Durham & Northumberland record for a Gentleman Compound shooting an Albion round was broken by David Heath with a fantastic score of 964 and only 4 arrows not hitting the gold, but seconds later this new record was then broken again by a fellow Priory archer James Mullins who only dropped four points all day missing the gold only twice.

One of our own Junior archers, Rebecca Shaw also set a new Teesside Championships record for Junior Ladies Compound and Elaine Green won the ladies Compound Trophy.

Compound Bows Recovered

We have some great news to report regarding the theft of the two compound bows.

One of the stolen longrods was placed on ebay last week on a one day auction, the police were notified and after finding the address of the seller from ebay the police raided the sellers house where the bows and all of the equipment were found.

The equipment has been identified but the police have kept hold of it for now to dust it for prints as it is believed that the seller was a middle man and not the person who stole the bows.

All of the equipment should be returned to the archers concerned shortly!

Two Unique Hoyt Compound Bows Stolen

One of our members has recently had two compound bows stolen in Darlington along with all of their other shooting equipment and cases. If anyone comes across any information regarding the following equipment please contact the club secretary.

Both of these bows can be uniquely identified which should make it extremely difficult to dispose of. All local club secretaries and suppliers have been notified and the local police are looking into the matter.

1 x Hoyt Avenger Plus in a red marble colour.
1 x Doinker longrod and sidebars.
1 x Sureloc sight with cartel scope with pen markings.
12 Easton ACC Arrows with red and green fletchings.
1 x Black quiver, containing fletcher wrist release and a gompy arrow puller.
1 x set of Allen Keys

This bow and equipment were in a large black triangular flight type case.

1 x Hoyt Tykon Junior in solid blue.
1 x Cartel longrod with Beiter side rods.
1 x extendable arrow tube containing 24 Easton xx75 arrows.
1 x wrist release
1 x Toxonics sight with scope
1 x set of allen keys
1 x scorebook

This equipment was all stored in a soft blue stryker case and belonged to one of our promising Junior archers.

Any information will be gratefully received as both members are keen archers and can no longer enjoy the rest of the shooting season. This equipment has a sentimental value and will be sorely missed.

Website Downtime

Those of you who have tried to visit the site recently may have been met by a message saying that the account had been suspended, this was caused by an administrative error in the way that the club pays for the web account. This fault was entirely at our end but thanks to the excellent service provided by our webhost 'EUKHost' we are now back up and running with minimum downtime. Apologies to everybody who was unable to use the site during this time.

Archery Taster Sessions Success!

As part of the London 2012 Open Weekend we opened our club to members of the public yesterday to give them the chance to try out archery. We completed three coaching sessions which lasted just over an hour and allowed 25 people to get a great taste of what archery is all about. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the coaching and we received some great feedback, some people have also signed up for a beginners course with the club while others showed a strong interest in doing so and it would be great to see them all shooting again.

There were also around 20 people who came to the event to have a go at archery, they paid their pound and got to shoot 12 arrows. We were hoping for much more interest than this but due to the short time we had to promote the event we can't complain and the important thing is that everyone who did come and have a go seemed to really enjoy themselves.

A big thanks to everyone who turned up to try archery and also to all of the club members who came down and helped out on the day.

Let's see what great ideas we can come up with to make next year's event an even bigger success!
